Vote for Controversial week 2
Controversial week 1, this coming Sunday will be What does the Bible teach about homosexuality?
Because of the PG-13 nature of this talk there will be an alternative option for kids during the teaching time.
Here’s your chance to vote on week 2… tons of great questions asked. We will definitely have to visit/revisit many of them in the future… in an effort to narrow down the field for voting, here are the most echoed suggestions thus far…
1) I am personally interested in hearing a biblical discussion of abortion. Tim
2) If our God is a loving God . And God is omnipotent why is there pain? Curt
3) Stem cell research might be interesting. Tina
4) I would like to know why children have to suffer. Geri
Please vote with your comments.

For sure the abortion issue. I have so many people I know that just dont’ see it for what it is… murder. They are looking at the “me” part of things “it is my choice” As far as I am aware of God did not give us a choice to murder our children.

I still think stem cell research would be interesting. It piqued my curosity when Tim first suggested it. I was merely interested from a point that I don’t really know why it’s controversial and I already have heard a lot about abortion and some of the other topics just seemed more churchworthy rather than controversial.
As I took some time to think about this over the week though, I also like some of the other questions and maybe I’d be more equipped if the question – why does God allow suffering / pain/ chidren / adults whatever is addressed? Would I run across this more often in my world? I’ve wondered if I have an answer to this question.
We had a discussion at our small group one night about this or maybe it was reworded a bit “does God send bad things to happen to you” Replace that with children, adults, homeless etc. and I wonder as far as controversy – which is the more grave but simple theory that might block some from truly seeing God – stem cells or pain?
Hmmm…I apologize for not really voting but I’m kind of an un-rebel like that and I pray that the Spirit will make clear the direction to go and that I have an open heart to hear what is spoken.

Stem Cell Research. Never really heard that talked about in a biblical context before.

Stem cell research and abortion are related in some ways. One of the primary objections to stem cell research is the way in which stem cells are created, which is through the use (and ultimate destruction) of a human embryo. New methods or obtaining stem cells have become available and that has changed some of the discussion.
Stem cell research is tempting because of the promises of the treatments it could yield. Do the benefits outweigh the ethics?
I think the stem cell research idea would be interesting.

#2 I think would be interesting which could be tied to #4. Suffering and Pain with an omnipotent God who’s all loving?

I would vote for Stem Cell research. I have heard or at least read about some of the other topics in a Biblical context. Also I think that stem cell research is going to become a very hot issue in the next couple years.

please include in your contemplations research that is being done w/ adult stem cells. this also ties into baby DNA gatthering, which MN is one of the states that doesnt ask permission for. i have freinds working on the legislation – to prevent the govt from taking baby DNA and housing it forever.
