Moralism vs Redemption

June 2, 2009 at 1:56 pm (Ben's Musings, Bible)

Last Sunday we referenced a teaching that can not be reinforced enough.

If you want the full platter check out the message online.  If you want the cliff notes… read on.

The Gospel of Moralism says…

… I am perfect, you should be too.

… We are bad, and Jesus came to teach us how to be good.

… God will love me if I earn it.

… Jesus died so that you could be a good person.

… If I’m good enough I will go to heaven.

… be like Jesus because you are supposed to.

The problem with the Gospel of Moralism is… the Bible!  The true gospel is not a gospel of moralism but of REDEMPTION.

The Gospel of Redemption says…

… I’m not perfect, but I am forgiven.

… We are broken, and Jesus came to redeem/save us.

… God loves me, even though I could never earn it.

… Jesus died to pay the price for my sin and yours.

… I’ll never be good enough, that’s why Jesus came.

… be like Jesus, because he’s set you free to.

Which gospel are you holding on to?
