Wall-E :: Movie Review

walleWALL-E’s story revolves around a quirky robot who has been left with the daunting task of Earth’s clean up.  Hundreds of years earlier people abandoned the now desolate and lifeless planet.  Yet, WALL-E, the last of his kind, continues to faithfully follow his directive. WALL-E’s name is an acronym for, Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-Class, or in other words, he is a fancy trash-compacter.  Over the long years Wall-E has developed a bit of a personality.  He is curious, he is quirky and above all he is lonely.

I must say I was very pleased with this movie.  It is a truly G movie and completely entertaining.  They do a masterful job of telling a story with very few words.  In fact, only in retrospect did I realize how little dialogue there was.  The animation is flawless and captivating, the story is compelling yet surprisingly simple and I was amazed at how well robots with personality could play the emotional strings.

walle2There are some political undertones.  The Earth has been quite literally trashed by the human race and apparently big business.  However, that seemed to be more of a subtle background to the story  and not the primary thrust as some other movies like Happy Feet have done.

In fact, the movie alludes to the need for humans to take care of the Earth.  A very Biblical and God honoring concept.

My family and I also enjoyed the movie-short that came immediately before the movie.  All and all I would recommend this Pixar creation to anyone.  It is a compelling, sweet, and family friendly adventure.

On the Alley scale I give it a strong 4 out of 5 bricks.

    You gotta admit though, that Wall-E looks awfully alot like Johnny 5 from the 80’s movie “Short Circut”. I bet it will be great, nonetheless.com

    Wall-E totally looks exactly like the robot from “Short Circuit” (minus the cheesy 80’s style)
