To Ceasar and to God…
Here’s a Biblical thought for Tax day. For those who already filed, ponder this. For those who haven’t… stop procrastinating, file and then read this.
In Matthew 22:15-21 Jesus is asked by some Pharisees whether or not they should pay taxes. This was a trap. If he says yes, then he’s betrayed the oppressed Jews. If he says no, then they have grounds to get the Roman government involved. (they have this little habit of crucifying people by the hundreds)
Jesus borrows a coin from one of them and simply says, “Who’s image is on this?”
“Ceasar’s,” they replied.
Then the one-two punch from Jesus. “Give to Ceasar what is Ceasar’s and to God what is God’s”
Why is that so impactful. Because, think back to Genesis 1. Whose image is man created in? God’s
So, give Ceasar your stuff, but give God your life!
