Mudblonsters
So, what terrible evil wakes my children at night? What plagues their dreams and haunts their minds. What keeps my wife and I from having even one solid night’s sleep? Apparently the dreaded Mudblonster. Scary in shape, made of oozing mud, but frightening slow (as ooze is just above snail speed), and well, completely made up by my little boy’s imagination.
Someday I know the Mudblonster will seem fickle, even silly to him. But today, it strikes fear and sends him running to mom and dad’s bed. I just have to wonder if all of those things that I fear, that we fear, won’t someday be placed in the childhood mudblonster category.
1 Corinthians 13 says, among other things, that when I was a child I thought like a child, reasoned like a child, but when I grew up I put childish things behind me. I’ve always thought of that particular passage as an eternal perspective. My son will probably not be waking in Mudblonster induced cold sweats 20 years from now. And, why would I think for a moment, that in the wake of an eternity, the silly things that plague my dreams and cause me anxiety will seem any more potent.
Let’s put the Mudblonsters to bed and get to what really matters!
Burgers & Beats…
i have to believe that you have all seen the sign at one time or another. off on some not so distant horizon it shines it light for all to see;
proclaiming an epic deal of over processed beef on a sesame seed bun for a mere 69 cents and if your heart so desires….you can add cheese for just a dime more. of course this only takes place after 8pm.
i fell victim that that siren’s call on monday night driving home from band rehearsal. i have to say those were the best cheeseburgers i have ever had from the king. it was probably late enough that they made everything as it was ordered. (note to self; find yourself around bk in the latter hours of the evening.)
so what does this have to do with anything except to illustrate my weakness for beef flavored grease? well after bringing my little individually wrapped treasures home and consuming them, there was no way i could go to bed quite yet. digestion needed to complete its courses and i had to make sure everything was a-ok. so i found myself digging into some music. there was a song that we had been rehearsing earlier that night for this weekend’s worship and i wanted to delve a little deeper into this bands library. friends; i give you….
Fee – We Shine
Fee is the brilliant name of the band fronted by mr. steven fee. steven is no stranger to the ccm world. he worked with the passion movement for quite some time as a musician/artist but now it was time to head out on his own and flash some of those talents. actually there are earlier recording from steve as a solo artist but this is the first attempt with the band.
a lot of the disc is an ode to the david crowder band and thats certainly not a bad thing. the cd comes out of the gates swinging right away with the song “all because of jesus”. driven by a techno vibe and some heavy guitar/synth sounds, “we shine” follows suit in the #2 slot.
the majority of the disc is slower more ballad-y sounding than the initial couple songs, including the one we are bringing into our rotation. of course they are getting quite a bit of air time on many christian media outlets, just not our primary one. (tip: if you are in the southern woodbury, cg, nwpt, stpp area try tuning into 103.7) .
this music isnt revolutionary by any stretch but it is done really really well and hearts are clearly on the sleeves of these guys. but hey, don’t take my word for it….check it out yourself!
